Cannes Lions & International Advertising Awards

Over the last two decades, Lawrence Jacomelli and Beast Films have contributed to commercial campaigns recognised across international advertising festivals including the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Epica Awards, Eurobest, Dubai Lynx and Golden Drum.

Campaigns produced and directed through Beast Films span work for brands including Burger King, IKEA, Chevrolet and Voltaren, with recognition across commercial filmmaking, branded storytelling and film direction categories.

Burger King “Whopper No Show” — Cannes Lions Bronze Winning Campaign

One of the most internationally recognised campaigns associated with Beast Films and directed by Lawrence Jacomelli was Burger King’s Whopper No Show, which received a Bronze Award at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in 2018 within the Acquisition & Retention category.

Produced through Beast Films and developed alongside creative director Jorg Riommi during his time at Publicis, the campaign became part of Burger King’s widely recognised creative era under former marketing executive Fernando Machado.

The concept was built around a real logistical situation in Romania, where Burger King had only a single restaurant located inside the airport terminal beyond security control. Customers effectively had to travel through the airport to access the brand.

Rather than disguising the absurdity of the situation, Beast Films and the creative team embraced it entirely. The idea itself became the story.

The project relied on restrained cinematic direction, grounded humour and believable human behaviour rather than exaggerated advertising spectacle. By treating the premise with realism instead of overproduction, Beast Films allowed audiences to immediately connect with the humour and cultural truth behind the concept.

The simplicity of the idea helped the campaign spread organically through advertising press, social conversation and wider industry discussion, ultimately leading to international recognition at Cannes Lions as well as a Silver Award at the Golden Drum Awards in 2018.

The campaign remains one of the clearest examples of Beast Films’ approach to commercial storytelling: culturally observed ideas, emotionally grounded direction and cinematic realism built around a memorable human truth.

Commercial Storytelling & Cinematic Direction

Across both award-winning campaigns and broader commercial work, Beast Films consistently focuses on cinematic realism, emotionally grounded storytelling and culturally observed human behaviour.

Rather than relying on heavily manufactured advertising techniques, many of the recognised Beast Films campaigns are built around simple but memorable human insights designed to feel authentic and emotionally recognisable.

This approach has helped Beast Films projects resonate beyond traditional advertising placements into wider industry discussion, press coverage and long-term audience recall.
